Let's hyperanalyze XO, Kitty ships 💌

Hello to all my readers and welcome back to Takeaway! It's time. It's time to talk about XO, Kitty. Today, we will be discussing or hyperanalyzing the brand new Netflix tv show, and spinoff to Jenny Han's hit book series turned movie trilogy: To All the Boys.

Without further ado, let's get into it.

XO, Kitty is a series that is a spinoff of the To All the Boys series by Jenny Han. XO, Kitty follows the youngest Covey sister, Kitty, four years after the To All the Boys trilogy wrapped up. Kitty still is with her long-distance boyfriend, Dae, and in a fateful trip to her grandmother's attic, she figures out that her mother went to Korean Independent School of Seoul. In an effort to get closer to her, as well as Dae, she applies to the school. And she gets in. And she goes. Obviously.

Now, I'm not here to talk about the plot or whatever. It's time to talk about my absolute favorite thing: the ships.

Kitty and Dae, in my opinion, were never going to be endgame. Their relationship mostly relied on the childhood lovers trope, and the miscommunication trope. Dae hadn't done a good job of communicating what the exact situation was to Kitty, and when they got together, it was way too late for him to come clean. Kitty was already developing feelings for Yuri, and had gone through significant changes. At the end, they kinda outgrew each other and I am glad that they didn't end the season together and decided to keep their relationship in the past.

Next, let's discuss Kitty and Yuri. Although they came out of left wind for me, it was nice to see some representation. Yuri and Kitty definitely have an interesting dynamic. In the episode, BYOB, Kitty has a dream about Yuri and that is the start of their journey. However, Kitty rejects her feelings, but they grow as Yuri and Kitty become closer in the pursuit of knowledge regarding their moms. Kitty also breaks up with Dae because of her feelings for Yuri, and wants to tell her by the end but. . .she doesn't as Julliana showed up. I personally think that Kitty and Yuri have a nice dynamic and relationship with one another. They obviously care for one another, but honestly, I think that their relationship should be relegated to a friendship for now. I can see the chemistry, but not as much as another ship:

But, next, let's talk about the ship that I love. I will riot if Kitty and Minho don't end up together. Minho has a similar awakening about his feelings for Kitty as Kitty has for Yuri. He has a dream about her on the night of Chuseok, and his feelings grow for her as the series progresses. Honestly, Minho is my favorite character in this series. Not only is funny, but he has an interesting backstory to hear about with his parent's divorce and a feeling of neglection he feels from his family. He and Kitty have the most chemistry out of everyone in the cast, and they have a lot of impactful scenes (ex: the scene where Kitty and Minho talked on Chuseok, the scene where he saved her from the fire, and the scene where he told her that he loved her) as well as the fact that they are the enemies to lovers trope, and have the best banter.

Next, let's talk about Florian and Q. Q and Florian started out as a super cute ship (that was rep) and I honestly was here for it. Kitty worked her matchmaking skills on them super well. But then, it was revealed Florian's family issues and baggage, and later, it was revealed how he was cheating on the finals in order to stay with Q and pass the semester. I felt sorry for Florian and his situation, but it was no excuse for what he did. Cheating is wrong, no matter the reason you have and now, he's put Q in a tough spot. Should he let Florian get away with it and allow Dae (who was supposed to place first) lose his scholarship, or should he rat out Florian and save Dae, but ruin his relationship? That's the question.

Madison and Minho, I seriously have no feelings about. Madison was kinda a try-hard, and her stalkerish vibes threw me off. Minho deserves better than the no-strings relationship, and that's all I'll say.

Finally, we're talking about Yuri and Julliana. I thought that they were cute, and I loved how Kitty got them back together. However, their relationship is probably built on nostalgic moments that we weren't there for. So, for next season, we'll have to be convinced for sure. Julliana or Kitty? Let me know what y'all think!

I hope you guys enjoyed  this post and were able to maybe take away something from this. If you are interested (or want to), make sure to share this post or follow me (if you have a blog). Sending everyone well wishes!

Ciao,
